Mimosa WiFi 6/AX: 6ghz channel support for Australia
Note: Mimosa A6 and C6x/C6x-LE are AFC Ready
Automatic Frequency Coordination (AFC) is solution that references a central database of allocated apparatus licenses such as ACMAs public Register of Radiocommunication Licences (RRL), to automatically select operating frequency ranges that avoid incumbent licenses. Transmitters configured to use AFC are permitted to operate at full 36dBm output power (EIRP) instead of the current very low max limit of 14dBm.
As of July 2026, AFC is still under consideration by ACMA, with a decision expected by 2027, therefore although A6 is AFC Capable, a spectrum license issued by ACMA must be obtained in order to operate in 6GHz band at full tx power.
In the meantime, due to AU compliance regulations as well as current software limitations, the Mimosa WiFi 6/AX products do not support the expanded 6GHz channels - 5925-6425.
The relevant Compliance document for Australia is the Radiocommunications (Low Interference Potential Devices) Class Licence 2015 item 63AB:
In short, the use of the the new channels is permitted, but at max EIRP outdoor limit of 25 mW of output power, or roughly 14dBm.
The Mimosa A6 radio has an integrated 16dBi antenna, and the lowest TX power possible to select given existing admin software is 5 dBm, resulting in minimum operational EIRP of A6 of 21dBm - which significantly exceeds the regulatory limit. To operate A6 in Australia without AFC, tx power would need to be set to -2 dBm, which is not possible with current software revision, but may become available in future software updates.
