Holiday resort public Wireless Internet solution
Q: I may have a new client, I have been approached by one of the local resorts, they currently have a wifi solution provided by ***other company***. Their equipment is quite old and needs a total replacement. They are quite happy to pay for the new gear but unhappy with their current arrangement, lack of control and access to quick local support. I am sure the Duxtel solution could fill all of their needs. Unfortunately the site is on a hill and all the accommodation units are set down the slope slightly, so the lower level unit suffer lack of coverage, my vision would be a microtik at the centre and a ring of 5 Ubiquiti Pico stations around the edge of the site feeding from a central Access point (Probably another Pico).
How do I go about putting up a proposal for them?
Any help would be appreciated.
A: ***other company*** use the same equipment as us (these days), so it may well be already MikroTik hardware in place that might be possible to recover, reset and re-use.
Sure, you can use ubiquiti if you want to - in that case you would just need one duxMaster gateway device as the controller, then use the DuxTel Commander back end to manage the tickets and accounts.
You might also consider a MikroTik solution for the access network. We generally suggest three different models for a distributed customer access
network:
1. Distributed Wireless APs with 5GHz p2mp backhaul:
With this approach, a 5GHz base station (e.g. OmniTIK) is installed at the point of internet uplink, delivering connectivity to SXT devices located at strategic wifi points around the park. A 2.4GHz AP can then be deployed to each of those nodes.
2. Distributed Wireless APs with 5GHz mesh backhaul:
An improvement on the previous model is to deploy the backhaul network as a dynamic wireless mesh using OmniTIK devices. This model is ideal in cases when it is not possible to reach all parts of the property from a single AP location.
3. Distributed 2.4GHz mesh:
The simplest approach is to deploy 2.4GHz AP devices as a dynamic mesh configuration. This method works best when the number of clients is relatively low (up to perhaps 20 customers) and the total number of mesh devices is small (up to about 10 devices). The big advantage of this arrangement is that you can deploy the customer access network in a very ad-hoc manner, adding or moving base stations as needed to improve coverage in areas that turn out to have low or poor signal. The dynamic mesh solution also delivers a self-learning and self-repairing network, with all participating devices maintaining connections to all nearby peers, and selecting the most stable link at any given time - therefore if any one device fails, it does not necessarily affect the entire network (you can even implement multiple gateway nodes that are connected to the wired network!).
For a 5GHz solution, we have the SIXPACK promotion available at the moment includes a free OmniTIK with 5 units of SXT.
OmniTIK are perfect for the 5GHz mesh scenario.
For the 2.4GHz Cells, we recommend the new 2.4GHz Groove with 8dBi omnidirectional antenna
